The Indiana Pacers topped the Philadelphia 76ers 69-63 in the final
game of Monday’s 2012 AirTran Airways Orlando Pro Summer League.
Eight ties and six lead changes defined the tempo of a game that remained open to both teams throughout all four 10-minute quarters.
The Pacers combined improved rebounding and multiple fast break opportunities to take an eight-point lead – the biggest of the game –in the fourth quarter.
True to form in this game, Philadelphia climbed back within one point. But the Sixers were unable to come back from Indiana’s second offensive push.
Orlando Johnson picked up the pace for Indiana with nine boards and 19 points. Guard Lance Stephenson – of the LeBron James “choke” gesture fame from this year’s playoffs – added 13 points of his own in the win.
On the defensive end, Miles Plumlee dominated inside for the Pacers with 10 rebounds.
Philadelphia shot as low as 21 percent before the half, but a physical approach to guarding the Pacers kept the Sixers in contention. They finished shooting over 31 percent.
